WNBA Power Rankings: Rebuilding Mystics Soar into Top Three
The Washington Mystics have undergone a remarkable transformation, rising from ninth place to fifth in the WNBA standings. Their seven-game winning streak has tied for the second-longest in franchise history, and they are now contenders for homecourt advantage in the first round of the playoffs.

The Washington Mystics have been one of the most surprising teams in the WNBA this season. After a slow start, they have gone on a tear, winning 11 of their last 14 games. This has propelled them up the standings, and they are now sitting in fifth place, just half a game behind the Indiana Fever for fourth and two games behind the reigning champion Las Vegas Aces for third.
## Mystics' Defense and Offense
The Mystics' defense has been their biggest strength throughout the season, and although it has slipped a bit during their winning streak, they have the best mark in the league over the last seven games (104.7). However, their offense has finally caught up, with a 113.6 offensive rating over the last seven games, which ranks sixth in the league in that span.
| Statistic | Last 7 Games | Season | | --- | --- | --- | | Defensive Rating | 104.7 | - | | Offensive Rating | 113.6 | - |
Shakira Austin has been instrumental in the Mystics' turnaround on offense. After a strong start to the season, she had a disastrous June, but since then, she has been playing at an All-WNBA level. Over the last seven games, Austin is averaging 21.7 points on 54.8% shooting, to go along with 10.3 rebounds, 2.6 assists, and 1.1 blocks.
## Wings Hit Turbulence
In contrast to the Mystics' success, the Dallas Wings have hit turbulence. After a strong start to the season, they have struggled, and their offense has not been able to keep up with their defense. The team is still trying to find its footing, and it remains to be seen how they will recover from their current slump.
The Mystics' signing of Betnijah Laney-Hamilton off waivers has also been a significant boost to the team. Although she has struggled this season after missing all of 2025 with a knee injury, she could provide the perimeter scoring and shot-making the team is still lacking.
## Future Prospects
The Mystics are also set to receive a 2027 lottery pick from the Chicago Sky as part of a pick swap. This will give them an additional asset to build around, and it is clear that the future is bright in D.C. Whatever happens the rest of the way this season, the Mystics are a team to watch in the WNBA playoffs.
