Bronny James is focusing his summer development on becoming a more effective off-ball player for the Los Angeles Lakers. In a recent interview, the third-year guard outlined his specific offensive goals for the upcoming season.

James spoke about his offseason work during an appearance on ESPN LA's "Mason & Ireland" radio show. He stated his primary aim is to improve his game across the board, with a particular emphasis on fitting into a system built around other ball-dominant players.

Summer Development Focus

"All across the board I'm trying to get better," James said. "I'm playing with Luka and AR still, so I'm going to be off ball."

His role is expected to become more simplify this season. With the Lakers' offense centered on Luka Dončić and Austin Reaves handling the ball, James anticipates serving primarily as an off-ball guard. This shift has dictated his training priorities during the offseason.

Defining His Role

When asked about the type of player he envisions becoming, James described a versatile, complementary piece. He sees himself as a secondary option who can generate offense in various ways without needing to dominate possession.

"I feel like I can be a secondary ballhandler to Luka and AR and generate whatever offense," James explained. "Catch-and-shoot, pick-and-roll offense and stuff like that."

This mindset aligns with the practical demands of his expected position. The work is focused on executing in the moments when the ball comes his way.

A Critical Season Ahead

This year is viewed as key for Bronny James's future with the Lakers. The team holds a wealth of guard options, both older and younger than him. With a team option for the following season, the pressure is on for James to translate his offseason development into tangible production during games.

Following two seasons of development, the expectation is that results must start to show. He has drifted into the background at times, but entering his third year, the spotlight and demands will intensify. The report from Yahoo Sports notes that while he has the right mindset, it must lead to real on-court impact this season.
