Mark Mitchell Reenrolls At Missouri For
Forward Mark Mitchell has reenrolled at the University of Missouri for the 2026/27 college basketball season, reversing a prior commitment to Kentucky.

Forward Mark Mitchell has reenrolled at the University of Missouri for the 2026/27 college basketball season. A source informed Jeff Goodman of The Field of 68 about the move, which was later confirmed by Mitchell's agent to ESPN's Jeff Borzello.
This decision marks a reversal for Mitchell. Just nine days prior, he had committed to play for the University of Kentucky. The 6'8" forward had reached a tentative Exhibit 10 agreement with the Denver Nuggets after going undrafted in June and played for Denver's NBA Summer League team last month.
Eligibility Ruling Creates Path
Mitchell's return is possible due to a recent legal ruling. U.S. District Judge Charlotte Sweeney in Denver granted a preliminary injunction. This ruling creates a path for four-year college athletes from the high school class of 2022 to return for a fifth year of eligibility in 2026/27. A key condition is that they must not have signed a professional contract.
Mitchell is among many players who were on track to sign NBA training camp deals before this ruling. The decision has opened the door for them to reconsider their collegiate careers.
NCAA Challenges the Decision
The future of this eligibility pathway is uncertain. The NCAA is actively fighting to reverse Judge Sweeney's ruling. The association has asked the Tenth Circuit Court to overturn the preliminary injunction.
The NCAA's position is firm. It has stated it will not issue a blanket waiver for the entire class of 2022. Instead, the organization has a "five-for-five" rule in development.
This proposed rule would grant players eligibility over five seasons once their clock starts. However, the NCAA intends for this rule to apply to players enrolling in college in the fall of 2027, not retroactively to athletes who have already used their eligibility.
Earlier this month, the preliminary injunction was placed on hold. Despite this, several players have received temporary orders in individual states allowing them to return. Mitchell himself was granted such an order when he was seeking to play for Kentucky.
Mitchell's Collegiate Career
Mark Mitchell has had a notable college career. He spent his first two seasons playing for Duke University. Ahead of his junior year, he transferred to Missouri.
His senior season in 2025/26 was particularly strong. Mitchell earned second-team All-SEC honors. His performance that season is detailed below.
